The Trolley Track Trail’s nettlesome gap between 73rd and 75th Streets has been closed, thanks to a redo of the intersection by the city. The trail formerly dumped southbound users into a parking lot, where they would need to thread the parked cars for two blocks and cross a nasty intersection before picking up the trail again on the southeast corner of 75th and Wornall.
The redo includes an extra-wide sidewalk on the east side of Wornall, protected from the street by a series of bollards and separated by a wrought-iron fence from the parking lot.
Not only does it close the gap but it does so with a generously scaled path that beautifies the street. Along with traffic-calming bulb-outs and traffic-lane reductions, the entire make-over which extends a couple of blocks in each direction on 75th Street and a couple blocks to the north on Wornall, transforms this key intersection from a dangerous eye-sore to a far better place.
